My first bully.

The day before Miguel’s wedding. His wedding was already hard enough for me.

I felt like I was betraying my own mother. The man who didn’t sign her divorce papers was hosting a farce at Huntington Park. That must have not been easy for her. Of course he needed things done his way. I invited some friends from school to make the day easier for me and so the guys from church can see that I did have friends, they weren’t needed.

I told my older sister, Jenmy, that I was going to walk over to Sandra’s house so she could do my eyebrows. I told her to let Miguel Sr. know, so I could tag along and help set the venue up. Sandra and I waited and waited. Finally I decided to call him since it was getting late. He answers and I could hear he was driving! I had asked him why didn’t he pick me up? He said no one had told him where I was? I asked, “I thought I had to be there for the rehearsal?” He laughed, “Mañana llegas tú. Hoy es pura familia.” My heart shattered and I said ok, guess I’m not needed tomorrow either. Hung up.

His soon to be new wife called me. See, she was always able to calm me down with her dream man. Not this time. I politely, maybe, told her no and hung up. He texted me saying what he meant to say was that there was no room in the car and I’m being dramatic! He called me to say Tino is looking for me to take me to the church and I better not stand Tino up. WTH??! Have you not been paying attention? Of course not!

Sandra kept telling me, to really think this through I might regret not showing up to this wedding and I had already invited friends from school. I said fine I’ll show up to the ceremony but I’m not taking any pictures. She said Miguel be serious, your sisters will and that will make you feel even more isolated. She had a point! 🙄

My dad waited to release his secret weapon on me not knowing I was already going to show up, I hadn’t told him. I wanted him to sweat a little. Jenmy texted me. “Mikey I need you. They want me to walk with Abdias. You have to come” she was mad that he had just gotten a car but didn’t want to drive it yet due to it not having insurance. She was always used to getting her way too! Hahaha

I showed up to spend the night at his house, my real soft spot, Jazmyn, wanted me to go with her to get her hair and makeup done. Jenmy and her had their own fight because Jenmy was copying her hairstyle. Sisters. 😂 I mean I’m the 2nd sister too. As we were going to bed Jazmyn told me if I wanted to be mad at someone be mad at Jenmy. My dad asked her where I was and she didn’t say anything. Jazmyn was giving them both the silent treatment so she didn’t speak up. She was young lol maybe 13. At this point I was so over everything! Just ready to fake my smile and pretend to love this man and his wonderful new family. After all Sandra gave me her word that she would be there!

Hours before the ceremony, I joked with Sandra and told her what if instead of objecting I just pulled out a gun held it up to my temple and traumatized everyone! She said she would fuck Miguel up and tell him he did this because of you!!! Girl, don’t tempt me with a good time!

After his wedding when it’s just Sandra and I at her house. Miguel calls me thanking me yeah yeah get off my phone that you pay for. He said let me talk to Sandra. I put the phone on speaker and handed it to her. He says, “you looked really really really pretty and you have nice legs!” Sandra laughed and thanked him. Then handed me the phone and said please don’t ever make me talk to him again while pretending to shiver. I was so embarrassed. He just got “married” HOURS ago!
